This course is designed to increase the skills required to assess, control, and defeat a Category ‘A’ type device using intelligence gained during the incident. The EOD operator will be required to plan and execute a render-safe procedure to where the situation is resolved or normal IED procedures could be implemented. Sometimes the situation can be simply resolved with an x-ray to negate the presence of a device but in other cases, action may be required with invasive techniques.
Access through different media such as wood, metal, and plastics requires much thought as they all have their own characteristics and without practice are difficult to penetrate with sufficient finesse to minimize the effect on a possible trigger. Therefore, much of this course is dedicated to access practice.
